Job Overview
The AI Ethics Officer will lead the development, implementation, and governance of ethical frameworks for AI products and services offered by Google Cloud Algeria. Reporting to the Head of Compliance, the incumbent will collaborate with product managers, engineers, legal counsel, and external stakeholders to ensure that AI systems are designed and operated in alignment with international standards, local regulations, and societal expectations. This position plays a pivotal role in shaping policy, conducting risk assessments, and driving a culture of responsible AI across the organization. The successful candidate will also act as a liaison with regulators, NGOs, and academic institutions, representing Google Cloud Algeria in public forums and contributing to thought leadership on AI ethics in the African context.

Key Responsibilities
- Develop and maintain an AI Ethics Framework that aligns with Google’s global principles and Algerian legal requirements.
- Conduct comprehensive ethical risk assessments for new and existing AI models, identifying bias, privacy, and fairness concerns.
- Collaborate with product and engineering teams to embed ethical guidelines into the design, development, and deployment phases.
- Provide training and mentorship to cross‑functional teams on responsible AI practices and regulatory compliance.
- Monitor emerging AI regulations in Algeria and the broader MENA region, updating internal policies accordingly.
- Engage with external stakeholders, including government agencies, civil society, and academic experts, to gather insights and promote transparent AI governance.
- Prepare and present detailed reports on ethical audits, mitigation strategies, and compliance status to senior leadership.
- Lead incident response for AI‑related ethical breaches, ensuring timely remediation and communication.
Required Skills
- Deep understanding of AI technologies, machine learning pipelines, and data lifecycle management.
- Strong knowledge of international AI ethics standards (e.g., OECD AI Principles, EU AI Act) and Algerian data protection laws.
- Excellent analytical and critical‑thinking abilities to evaluate complex ethical dilemmas.
- Proven experience in policy development, risk assessment, and compliance monitoring.
- Effective communication skills, capable of translating technical concepts for non‑technical audiences.
- Ability to influence and drive change across multidisciplinary teams.
- Fluency in Arabic, French, and English is highly desirable.
Education
A Master’s degree in Computer Science, Data Science, Ethics, Law, Philosophy, or a related field is required. Advanced certifications in AI governance, data privacy (e.g., CIPP/E), or related disciplines are a strong plus.
Experience
Minimum of five years of professional experience in AI ethics, data governance, compliance, or a comparable role within the technology sector. Prior experience working in a multinational environment and familiarity with the Algerian regulatory landscape will be advantageous.
Salary
The position offers a competitive salary range of 150,000 to 250,000 SSP per month, commensurate with experience and qualifications, along with performance‑based bonuses and equity participation options.
